Terrawars – New York Invasion

Description

Terrawars: NY Invasion is a budget-priced first-person shooter that takes place in an alien-infested New York City. You play as John Armstrong, a medical student that’s been drafted into the Army National Guard to fight the aliens. The game plays in standard first-person shooter fashion: Move through the level, kill all the aliens, and try not to get killed by them. In some levels, you’ll meet allies who will fight the aliens alongside you.

Your arsenal includes a knife, pistol, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle, and grenades. Some enemies will drop “bio-matter” when they die, which allows you to upgrade your weapons for expanded clip size, faster fire rate, and increased damage. …

Midtown Madness

Description

Midtown Madness (also known as Midtown Madness: Chicago Edition) is a 1999 racing game developed by Angel Studios and published by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows. The demo version was released in April 1999. Two sequels followed, with Midtown Madness 2 released in September 2000 and Midtown Madness 3 released in June 2003 for the Xbox. The game is set in Chicago and its objective is to win street races and obtain new cars.

Unlike racing games that restrict the player to a race track, Midtown Madness offers an open world recreation of Chicago. This setting was said to provide “an unprecedented degree of freedom to drive around in a virtual city”. Players can explore the city via one of several modes, and can determine the weather and traffic conditions for each race. The game supports multiplayer races over a local area network or the Internet. The game received generally positive reviews from gaming websites. …

Lula – The Sexy Empire

Description

After holding a bank and shooting guards, your two criminal buddies abandon you out in the middle of the desert, taking all the loot with them.

This is where you start the game: In a quiet desert town, almost broke, and with the FBI on your heels. You meet up with Lula, an aspiring ‘actress’, and together decide to make your ways to the top.

In the first part of the game you’re in the small town, making enough money in a few days to buy a new identity, and evade the advancing FBI net, by taking photos and films of Lula in the nearby hotel. Once you get enough money, you decide to go into proper business for yourselves.

The second part consists of you setting up a movie-making business, hiring and firing staff, generating film ‘plots’, setting up cutting and editing facilities, and haggling for the best distribution deals until you are able to be a distributor yourself. Build up money here and we advance to the final section of the game.

Having made it in the movie-business, you now set up sex stores across the country, dealing more in resource-management and advertising until you’re able to generate enough money to launch the Lula television satellite into orbit – the final aim of the game. …

Painkiller – Overdose

Description

The angel/demon cross Belial is a feared demon of Lucifer’s army. Having now escaped one of the many prisons of Lucifer, he is out for revenge on those who framed him. As Belial, you must fight 40 types of enemies including huge bosses in purgatory – the land between heaven and hell. The levels feature horror-adjusted versions of familiar worldwide beings from mythology and history – gladiators, mummies and ninjas all become frightening foes.

Painkiller: Overdose is a raw first-person shooter similar to the previous Painkiller games; you run and gun for your life using a devastating arsenal of six different weapons. Originally developed as a fan-made modification, the team was given funding to make it into a full, independent game. The weapons have both primary and secondary firing modes. You may also combine these two and get a third firing mode as well.

Power-ups are again achieved via the Black Tarot cards, which set specific challenges and rewards for each level. The Demon Transform feature from the original also remains – it allows you to swallow the souls of your victims to use as charges for a smart-bomb effect. …

Painkiller – Resurrection

Description

Painkiller: Resurrection is a first-person shooter based upon Painkiller and Painkiller: Overdose. It is not a sequel to those games, but instead rehashes the familiar theme with a new protagonist, updated graphics and improved special effects.

You take the role of William “Wild Bill” Sherman, a Black Ops specialist and former CIA agent. Bill’s last mission went completely wrong and he was killed as were many innocent bystanders. Now he has arrived in purgatory, that interim place between heaven and hell where good and evil forces collide.

There are four difficulty levels in the single player game. As in other FPS games, your objective is to kill monsters and beasts and make it through the levels. Unlike previous Painkiller games, there are different ways to solve things, some less violent than others. For instance, you can sneak around areas where enemy spawning is likely.

Each of the eight weapons has different attack modes plus two firing modes. Besides standard guns there are outlandish weapons like a razor-spinning grenade launcher and a demon head that spews laser fire. Find additional weapons, ammunition, armor and gold by killing foes and destroying containers (urns, caskets, boxes etc.) Some objects can also be pushed. …

Fuel

Description

FUEL is a free-world racing game. Players can explore a 14.000 km² area of Northern America after the effects of global warming took place, rendering it desolate with abandoned cities, broken vehicles and almost no survivors. The goal is to win races, which provides fuel that can be exchanged for new vehicles. The game world is divided in nineteen separate zones that need to be unlocked by collecting stars – provided through winning career races. Up to 75 different types of vehicles can be unlocked during the course of the game. The vehicles can be modified with paint jobs and liveries.

Besides the regular career races, which are restricted to a specific vehicle class like ATV, buggy or motorbike, challenges are another event type in the game. These include for example chasing a helicopter through the terrain or trying to touch other vehicles within a given time limit. Next to the races and challenges that can be accessed right away, the game also offers the ability to drive freely in each of the zones to explore the environment. This is further encouraged by having to locate new liveries, vista points, and doppler trucks that show the locations of all items. The terrain is dense and the appropriate vehicle needs to be selected to explore freely. There are many extreme weather effects, such as pouring rain, snow, thunder storms and even hurricanes. …
