Motorhead

Description

Motorhead is a futuristic racing title featuring a total of ten playable cars on eight twisting courses, ranging from an industrial area to a desert. Each vehicle is individually rated in speed, acceleration, and grip. There are no weapons or power-ups to collect; it’s just you, a friend, or the computer competing for the fastest time. Four play modes include Time Attack, League, Head-to-Head, and Single Race. Multiplayer support via Internet and LAN is also available for up to eight racers.

One of the last games published by Gremlin before they were bought out, Motorhead is an excellent racing game developed by Digital Illusions that deserves a much longer shelf life than it received. Trixter’s description and review at MobyGames says it all about this game:

Midtown Madness

Description

Midtown Madness (also known as Midtown Madness: Chicago Edition) is a 1999 racing game developed by Angel Studios and published by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows. The demo version was released in April 1999. Two sequels followed, with Midtown Madness 2 released in September 2000 and Midtown Madness 3 released in June 2003 for the Xbox. The game is set in Chicago and its objective is to win street races and obtain new cars.

Unlike racing games that restrict the player to a race track, Midtown Madness offers an open world recreation of Chicago. This setting was said to provide “an unprecedented degree of freedom to drive around in a virtual city”. Players can explore the city via one of several modes, and can determine the weather and traffic conditions for each race. The game supports multiplayer races over a local area network or the Internet. The game received generally positive reviews from gaming websites. …

Re-Volt is a racing game where you take control over one of more than 28 R/C cars and drive on one of the 13 tracks. The tracks are varied, and include a toy shop, a supermarket, a luxury liner and more. It is possible to play a “reversed” (backwards) or “mirror” (reversed left and right) variety of each track. There are also 4 levels of realism to choose from.

There are a couple of single- and multiplayer game modes to choose from. There’s a Single Race, where you complete a single track while competing with several computer-controlled opponents; a Championship, where you try to complete a series of races in hopes of finishing on the top; and Multiplayer, where you play with live opponents. There’s also a Time Trial, where you’re alone on the track, and simply try to get as best a time as possible; a Practice mode, where you’re free to drive around a track to learn its structure and shortcuts; and the Stunt Arena, where you drive around a special arena and try to collect stars situated in hard-to-reach places. …

Many centuries ago, mankind and dragonkind fought each other, and chaos ruled. Turok 2 – Seeds of Evil

Description

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is the sequel to Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Having defeated the Campaigner, Turok throws the Chronocepter into a waiting volcano to destroy it. Unfortunately the blast awakens an even deadlier force – The Primagen – who lays in wait for his freedom from a wrecked space craft, buried at the core of the Lost Land. Once again a Turok is tasked with restoring peace to the land and stopping the Primagen from merging Earth with the nether world.

The game features an armory twice as large as its predecessor, and many weapons will even have a later update that makes them even more devastating. New weapons include the lethal discus Razor Wind, a proximity mine layer, and the Cerebral Bore, a flying grenade that homes in on an enemy’s head, drills through their skull, and then explodes. Enemies have damage models now, allowing limbs to be torn off or bloody holes to be blasted through torsos. Turok won’t be facing any human opponents this time, but will find himself under attack by plenty of dinosaur/human hybrids, brutish giants, and man-sized insectoids. …
