Colin McRae Rally 04

Description

Colin McRae is no longer with Ford and Nicky Grist is no longer Colin’s co-driver. Things have moved on in the rally-driving world, as they have with this, the fourth title in the series. This time the player is in the vehicle of their choice.

While the game features improved graphics over the older titles in the series the biggest improvement is the handling in the game, which is now based on real-world physics. Where the previous titles’ handling of the cars made use of one pivot point, the new physics engine has four pivot points, each wheel interacting independently of the others.

There are four championships modes: 2WD, 4WD, Group B and Expert. 2WD is for beginners. 4WD is the next step up, offering an intermediate challenge. Group B features cars from the ’80s that were banned in 1986, as they were unrestricted and capable of extreme acceleration. And finally, Expert is for those that finish 4WD in advanced mode, upon which they are presented with Expert mode where one drives with cockpit view only, and with the highest damage setting. …

Colin McRae Rally 2005

Description

The fifth iteration of the rally racing game inspired by the “Flying Scotsman”. Choose from over 30 car models. The detail and physics are improved, and more playing modes are available, including a new around-the-world career mode. Weather conditions and rally courses can both be customized. Network play supports up to eight players with split-screen. As always, the menu design is clean, and the tracks are dirty!

As with previous games in the series, Colin McRae Rally 2005 is presented as a realistic rally simulation, with players participating in rallies consisting of 70 stages spread over nine countries. There are over 30 cars available. There is also a revised graphics and damage engine that enables paint scratches on the car, and a new ‘career’ mode where the player starts out in the lower club leagues and works their way up to compete with Colin McRae in his 2004 Dakar Rally Nissan Pick-Up. In ‘Championship’ mode the player takes the role of Colin himself competing in six rallies using any 4WD car. The game’s graphic engine allows for more realistic damage effects, like broken glass and doors falling off, and a blurred vision effect if the player comes into contact with a hard object. The damage system has similarities to the Destruction Derby one, as a damaged radiator will stall the car, and make it need to restart the engine. A slight level of customization is the ability to put your name and nationality on the window. …

Hitman – Contracts

Description

Hitman: Contracts is a third-person stealth game. Players take the role of “47”, a hitman who is unlucky enough to get shot, and falls to the floor dying. The whole game takes place in “flashbacks”, where 47 is reminiscing about past missions, some of which were previously seen in Hitman: Codename 47, the first game from the Hitman series.

Gameplay in Hitman: Contracts is similar to the previous installments. Your job will be to complete several missions which involve assassinating targets all over the world. You can sneak around in disguise to avoid the suspicious guards, or you can instead open fire on everyone you see. When you complete your mission, you’re given a rating – from “Mass Murderer” up to the coveted “Silent Assassin”. If you manage to complete a mission with a “Silent Assassin” rating, you receive a reward: a special weapon (such as dual sawed-off shotguns), and you can try playing a previously completed mission using one of the special weapons. …

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3

Description

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 marks the series’ debut to a 3D engine, and is the first major title in the series created by a company outside Chris Sawyer Productions.

The new engine brings numerous cosmetic additions like day/night cycles; reflective water; improved terraforming tools; and guests who differ in age, gender and appearance (and who can be created by the player in the Peep Designer), while gameplay changes are even more substantial – construction can take place even when the game is paused; park staff now have happiness levels, manageable wages, and can be trained; shops and stalls have more purchasable items which can be changed so, for example, drinks are sold with ice cubes; rides can be viewed from a first-person camera from any seat within the ride; VIP guests can appear, with a secondary objective requiring to please them; fireworks can be created and combined in the MixMaster; new custom billboards can make use of image files on the player’s computer, and custom stalls also added. …

Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos – Joey the Passion

Description

The Power of Chaos series continues with Joey the Passion. This game brings hundreds more cards to the series, a new computer opponent to battle, and a new 2-player LAN mode. There is also a new duelist level ranking to show how good you are.

Joey the Passion lets you play using the 350 cards from this game, as well as the ability to use cards from the other games in the series that you have won if you have those games. So, if you have a great deck from one or both of the other games in the series, you can bring that over to Joey the Passion and improve it with cards from this game. Cards are not backwards compatible, however. So you won’t be able to use Joey the Passion cards in the other games.

Although advertising a brand-new interface, you will find that everything is really the same, but with new graphical features, just like the differences between Yugi the Destiny and Kaiba the Revenge. This game has a street feel to it rather than the Egyptian feel of Yugi and the futuristic feel of Kaiba. …

Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos – Kaiba the Revenge

Description

This standalone expansion to Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos: Yugi the Destiny brings you over 300 new cards and allows you to battle Kaiba instead of Yugi.

The gameplay is the same as in the first game. However, Kaiba is much smarter in his strategies and moves and will give a much greater challenge to you. The new cards also add a very different feel to the game. With upgrade spells, it is very possible to put a monster’s attack over 10000 in this game!

The expansion automatically imports your deck from the first game if you have one. If not, you can still play with the starter deck that is given to you. Set up your deck with 40-80 cards and prepare yourself for battle.

As in Yugi the Destiny, this game has a tutorial to help you get started if you are new to the game. Battles are also the same in that you can play a single battle, or a match battle where you play best 2 out of 3. In the match battle, you have access to your side deck to make changes in your deck between rounds. If you manage to win a match battle, you win 3 cards instead of the 1 card you win in single battle mode. This can allow you to win 3 cards in only two battles if you’re good (lucky). …
