Description

Tess Conway was a wealthy heiress to an estate located on Matinicus Island in the state of Maine. She financed an expedition to locate the Water-Clock of Thoth, an ancient Egyptian artifact that was eventually discovered by the Egyptologist Dr. Hargrove. However, during the night of summer solstice in 1932, Tess attempted to use the artifact and mysteriously vanished as a result. Many years later, a former student of Dr. Hargrove arrives on the island, only to discover that it has been overrun by horrifying creatures. He must explore the estate and its surroundings, and find out what really happened on the fateful night.

Killing Time is a 3D first-person shooter differing in several ways from the traditional template of Doom. Rather than being divided into successive levels, the game’s world is fairly open, allowing the player to explore locations in different order as well as backtrack to previously visited areas. The game’s arsenal includes, besides various guns and Molotov cocktails, unique weapons such as an Ankh that damages multiple enemies at once. Various setpieces may involve sudden attacks by large amounts of enemies, traps, etc. The player character is able to jump, strafe, and crouch, and those actions are required in certain places. The spirits of Tess and her guests appear occasionally and bring the story of that night to light, helping the player to find keys, unlock doorways, locate secret passages, and solve puzzles. …

The House of the Dead 3

Description

The zombie infestation has spread all over the world, reducing the world into desolation with civilization collapsing. In 2019, 16 years after the events of the fourth game, a paramilitary force led by retired AMS agent Thomas Rogan infiltrates the EFI Research Facility, a research center formerly owned by Dr. Roy Curien located in an unnamed place in Europe or North America, to investigate what led to the world’s collapse. During the mission, his entire team is killed, until he and his second-in-command, Captain Dan Taylor are left. When they manage to find their answer in a giant laboratory, Death, a gigantic mutant who serves as the facility’s security guard, kills Taylor and injures Rogan. While fighting to stay alive, Rogan is approached by an unidentified figure in a semi-corporate attire who offers help. Contact with him is lost.

Two weeks later, on October 31, Rogan’s daughter, Lisa, accompanied by his former partner, semi-retired agent “G”, arrives at the facility to rescue him. While navigating through the facility, they fend off against hordes of undead creatures, before they encounter Death, whom they fight twice. Later, they fight a deformed sloth, The Fool, and a mutated tendril-covered plant named The Sun. Along the way, Lisa muses to “G” how she has to live in the shadows of her well-known father and that she is often the subject of his comparison. …

Land of the Dead – Road to Fiddler’s Green

Description

Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green is a FPS prequel to the 2005 George A. Romero film. It is also the first game based on a George A. Romero property.

You are Jack, a hick farmer who wakes up to find a stranger on his property. The stranger is a zombie, the first of many he encounters in the game. Using whatever ranged and melee weapons he can find, Jack pummels the undead back to where they came from in the goriest fashion possible. He works his way through a number of typical Romero locales (50’s style hospital, cornfields, abandoned police station, loading docks, etc) on his way to Mr. Kaufman’s walled city. Once there, Mr. Kaufman asks Jack to help him clean up Fiddler’s Green, a luxury condominium tower. This is where the game ends, and the movie picks things up.

Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green features an interesting limb specific damage system, meaning the player can literally blow the undead to pieces. It also features multiplayer over Xbox live, system link and Internet (PC). Up to eight players can enjoy deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and invasion modes with a twist – hungry zombies are coming after everyone! …

The Thing

Description

The game begins at U.S. Outpost 31 in Antarctica, a short time after the events of the film. Two teams of U.S. Special Forces have arrived to investigate the U.S. camp and the nearby Norwegian camp. Captain J.F. Blake (voiced by Per Solli) is the leader of Bravo Team, who are investigating the U.S. camp, whilst Alpha Team, under the command of Captain Pierce, investigate the Norwegian camp. Both teams are under the overall command of Colonel Whitley (William B. Davis), who is in constant communication via radio. Whilst investigating Outpost 31, Bravo Team soon discover the small spacecraft made by the Blair-Thing and a tape recorder with a message from R.J. MacReady, describing how nobody trusts anybody anymore. They then find information detailing how the base has been infiltrated by an extraterrestrial lifeform that is capable of imitating the physical appearance and characteristics of any living organism it assimilates. They also find the body of Childs, one of the two survivors at the end of the film, who has died from hypothermia. The film’s other survivor, MacReady, is nowhere to be found. Under orders from Whitley, Bravo Team set up C-4 explosives throughout the facility, which are detonated remotely, destroying the outpost.

Whilst the rest of Bravo Team are airlifted to safety, Blake heads to the Norwegian camp to locate and reinforce Alpha Team, with whom contact has been lost. He soon learns they have been attacked and scattered by a horde of “scuttlers;” small limbs and appendages of much larger Things. Eventually Blake finds Pierce. However, he has become paranoid, believing everyone to be infected and demanding Blake agrees to a blood test to prove he is still human. Blake does so, and he and Pierce set out to find a way to reestablish communication with Whitley. However, they are soon separated, and with no other choice, Blake continues on, finding the radio room, but discovering someone has stolen the radio and fled into a nearby warehouse. …

The Typing of The Dead

Description

This is essentially the same game as the arcade light-gun rail-shooter House of the Dead 2, except they’ve turned it into a edu-tainment typing trainer. Instead of guns, your characters have keyboards strapped to them, and instead of shooting the zombies that constantly jump out at you you’ll need to type out the words attached to the zombies in order to kill them before they crack open your head and feast upon the goo inside. The game ranks you on your typing speed and provides various tutorials and other edu-tainment sundries.

Otherwise it’s pretty much the same game as House of the Dead 2. Much like the Resident Evil series, the zombie hordes have gone from infesting a vaguely gothic creepy old mansion to infesting a vaguely gothic decaying city, and its your job to stop them and save the human race (as usual). …

The House of the Dead

Description

The House of the Dead is a rail shooter. Go through the four chapters with branching paths and kill all the zombies, avoid killing the humans, and rescue the girl. Shooting various special targets along the way or in a certain time period give the player temporary health and weapon upgrades.

The Saturn version of the game contains two extra modes called Saturn Mode and Boss Mode. Saturn mode plays like the arcade game, but offers the player different characters to choose from. Character selection matters since they each have varying attributes such as their reload time and how much damage they can take before dying. The Boss Mode allows the player to fight one boss of their choosing or all of the game’s four boss monsters consecutively. …

Resident Evil 4 (2007)

Description

Picking up six years after Resident Evil 2, the fourth game in the series follows former cop (now US agent) Leon S. Kennedy to Europe on a top secret mission to investigate the disappearance of the president’s daughter Ashley. As Leon encounters unimaginable horrors, he must find out who or what is behind everything. Old friends…and enemies…lurk around every corner as Leon attempts to find out who is truly behind the kidnapping of the president’s daughter.

Resident Evil 4 is a major change from the previous installments. Instead of a fixed third person perspective, the game features a new “behind the back” movement camera angle and an “over the shoulder” aiming feature that allows players to control their gun movement for specific body part hits. It features a brand new AI system and more open environments that allow enemies to work together to capture and corner Leon. Enemies are now humans, which allows them to climb up ladders, open doors, and use weapons throughout the game.

The entire item system has also been revamped, so that smaller items no longer require an entire item space to hold. Instead, items take up blocks of space in a briefcase according to their real life size, to allow for many more items and weapons. Leon can collect treasure from enemies or from the surrounding area, and visit the infamous “merchant” to purchase bigger briefcases, treasure maps, weapons upgrades, and powerful weapons such as the one-shot RPG. …
