Description
Burnout Paradise is the first installment in the long-running series, well known for its extreme 60-frames-per-second speed and crash-oriented carnage, to appear on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This title does away with menus to create a seamless integration of event gameplay and online interaction. Rather than dividing races into different sections, the player can fully explore Paradise City as an open world, where every junction is an opportunity to start an event. Just pull up at the traffic lights and rev the engine to start an event. The same applies to the Showtime mode (formerly Crash mode). The preset junctions and traffic are no longer present and the player can now crash at any location in the world, by activating the Showtime mode. It can also be used in regular modes, as well as online games. The main game mode has the player earn credit to unlock new licenses and cars. The five main event types are:

- Race: the first one to reach the finish wins.
- Road Rage: perform a number of takedowns before time runs out.
- Marked Man: race for a location and survive the attacks from another car that tries to take you down.
- Stunt Run: use stunt moves to reach a target score.
- Burning Route: a unique route for each car in the game.

There are more than 80 cars present and there is a reworked damage system. More parts can be torn off and the state of the car determines if the player can keep driving or has to wait for a reset. Objects in the environment can now also be deformed.

The game supports mugshots with support for a camera. When a player is taken down, both players have their photo taken, exchanged and saved on the hard drive. There are also camera-less persons or an avatar can be used.

Potential resolved issues:
- No audio - Press Alt+Tab out of the game and then back to it. This is necessary every time the game is run
- Burnout Paradise may crash on start-up if you have screen recording software running, such as XSplit or Bandicam. This occurs because the game sees the software as a webcam. The easiest way to rectify this issue is: close the screen recording software, load Burnout Paradise, Alt+Tab ↹ out, then run the screen recording software. If this is not effective, you may need to uninstall the screen recording software entirely.
- Users with the CL Eye Driver installed (to enable support for the PlayStation Eye Camera as a webcam) will encounter crashes when loading Burnout Paradise.
Currently, the only solution is to uninstall the CL Eye Driver entirely. You may encounter further problems even after doing so, so you may have to experiment with trial and error by closing some Windows Services in the Task Manager, then running Burnout Paradise.
- Nvidia graphics issues - Users with Nvidia graphics may have Nvidia's Streamer Service installed (used for streaming to Shield).
You may have to end nvstreamsvc.exe via the Task Manager for the game to load.
- Windows 7 users have reported crashing when attempting to run the game.
To rectify this, set the game to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, or Windows Vista SP2 mode. It may also help to reduce or disable Anti-Aliasing in the game's launcher.
As a last resort, the game may be fixable by entering -multithread into the launch options.
- Controller not recognized at launch - Delete controls.ini in folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Criterion Games\Burnout Paradise, and restart game
- Shadows rendering issue - On some system any in-game shadows may not cast on objects, i.e. street lamps, roofed area. Additionally if shadow quality set to Medium or High, The shadows may become bugged and cover the entire area of the map with shadow maps. Update graphics driver, or make sure the game uses any non-Intel GPUs
Issues only occurred with certain Intel GPUs, there are currently no fixes nor workaround for users with Intel graphics
